Cowboys vs. Eagles Best Bet:
Monday Night Football Prop

TE Brevyn Spann-Ford emerged as a co-starter in Dallas last week, and we’re seeing value in his receptions market as the Cowboys visit the Eagles on MNF.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford runs a route against the Eagles, as he takes on a larger role in the Cowboys’ tight end rotation.

Brevyn Spann-Ford Is a Buy-Low Spot at Tight End

The Dallas Cowboys visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in Week 7, and our top prop is on Spann-Ford’s receptions. I like Spann-Ford as a buy-low opportunity after his role took a significant step forward in Week 6. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said going into last Sunday night’s game in Green Bay that there would be some personnel changes, and one of those changes was Spann-Ford emerging as the primary tight end in 11 personnel on early downs.

Spann-Ford’s Role Is Trending Up

Spann-Ford played every snap in 12 personnel, while Jake Ferguson rotated with Luke Schoonmaker for the other tight end spot. Spann-Ford even took a few of Ferguson’s snaps in 11 personnel on third downs.

The production followed the opportunity. Spann-Ford caught four passes for 35 yards and played 47.1% of the offensive snaps, while Ferguson played 52.9%. That’s a major shift from Week 5 against Tampa Bay, when Ferguson played 85.5% of the snaps and Spann-Ford just 29.1%. After Ferguson’s early-season struggles, the coaching staff appears to have followed through on its promise to adjust the rotation. Even more telling, both tight ends are now listed as co-starters on the depth chart.

The Game Script Worked Against Him

What makes this especially interesting is that the change came in a game script that should have worked against Spann-Ford. His value comes largely from his run-blocking ability, but Dallas fell behind badly against the Packers and was forced to abandon the run, handing the ball off just 13 times. As a result, the Cowboys used 12 personnel on only 11.5% of their snaps. That’s a formation where Spann-Ford has played a major role, and Dallas has used it as much as 25% of the time in games with more favorable game scripts.

A More Balanced Script Should Help

Dallas is a 4.5-point road favorite with the total sitting at 45, which points to a more competitive game than last week. If the Cowboys can stay balanced, we should see an increase in 12 personnel usage and, in turn, more opportunities for Spann-Ford. The encouraging part is that his role expanded even in a game script that favored Ferguson’s pass-catching skill set.

Spann-Ford Doesn’t Need a Big Game

Ultimately, I don’t need Spann-Ford to become a focal point of the passing game. I just need him to maintain his new role and benefit from a more balanced offensive approach. He doesn’t need much production to clear this line, and at plus money, two catches is a price worth paying. For those looking for a bit more upside, we’re also sprinkling a boosted ladder on him hitting 3+ receptions, a number he already cleared last week in an unfavorable script.
