Same Player, Different Job
If you followed us last season, you know Zaccharie Risacher was not our friend when it came to taking his over.
Looking back now, I still believe that it wasn’t because he couldn’t play, it was just because of his role and fit on the team post-Trae Young.
By the end, the Hawks had pushed the 2024 No. 1 overall pick so far down the bench that he couldn’t get enough minutes to score.
Then came the trade to Dallas this summer, and it's shaping up to be a very different October. Tonight’s number is still built on the version of Risacher who couldn’t get off the bench in Atlanta. That isn’t who Dallas is sending out against the Rockets.
Mavericks at Rockets Match Details

Venue: Toyota Center

A Fresh Start
Dallas got Risacher in a three-team trade on July 19. The price was guard Ryan Nembhard and a second-round pick.
That’s cheap for a 21-year-old, 6-foot-9 former No. 1 pick, and it shows how Atlanta saw him by the end. Dallas sees something else.
Risacher spent the summer “working on my body too, doing all the right stuff” to get ready for a bigger role.
Dallas Is Giving Him the Minutes
So far in the preseason for Dallas, he played 23 to 27 minutes in every preseason game.
Dusty May has already called him a “major rotation piece” who will “play a lot.” With Santi Aldama and Caleb Martin out, nobody else is in line for those wing minutes except for Max Christie.
The Numbers at This Workload
According to PropsMadness, Risacher went over this number in 10 of 14 games where he played 22 to 27 minutes, had a 13 to 19% usage rate and shot between 20% and 70% from the field. He averaged 10.4 points in this setup. I am projecting for 10.8.
It’s a small sample, but it fits his role. He’s a low-usage wing, so his points come with the minutes, not with him creating his own shot.
Get Ahead of the Line
Risacher started over Max Christie in the final preseason game. If that holds as the opening-night lineup, expect this number to move up. The window to grab 8.5 may not last long.
Easy Looks Next to Kyrie and Flagg
Houston’s defense is tough, so this isn’t a matchup play. It’s about minutes. Risacher will share the floor with Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg, and both draw help defenders every time they drive. That leaves Risacher to benefit with more space from gravity on kick-outs, cuts, and second-chance looks he doesn’t have to create himself.
Exploiting the VanVleet Assignment
Amen Thompson will likely take Irving, and Jabari Smith Jr. will take Flagg. That probably leaves Fred VanVleet on Risacher, considering Durant will be busy with PJ Washington.
And when you look at it that way, it's now a 6-foot guard on a 6-foot-9 wing. Risacher can shoot right over the closeout and crash the glass. May also says he plays more physically than his frame suggests.
The Best Bet
Risacher’s line is built on his Atlanta role, not his Dallas one. If he gets 24 minutes, 9 points is a low bar. DraftKings has the best price at -104, with Caesars at -113 and FanDuel and theScore at -120.
Zaccharie Risacher (DAL) Over 8.5 Points
