2026 College Football Playoff Predictions:
Who Will Make It

A full breakdown of the 12-team 2026 CFP field, from Notre Dame to darkhorse East Carolina, plus the best bets on every team to make it.

The College Football Playoff is expected to feature plenty of heavyweights on the gridiron this season.

The 12 Teams I Expect to Make the 2026 College Football Playoff

After running position-by-position breakdowns on rosters across the country, I landed on a 12-team field I expect to see when the College Football Playoff bracket is released in December. Eight of these teams are short favorites to get there. Three are live plus-money value plays the market hasn't fully bought into yet. And one is a true darkhorse with odds long enough to make you think twice.

The CFP field still comes down to a committee, and that subjectivity is exactly why the pricing on some of these teams is worth a second look. Resumes get weighed against each other, close calls go one way instead of another, and a team with a strong case can still get left out over a tiebreaker most bettors never saw coming. That's what makes the plus-money teams in this field worth paying attention to. When I'm backing a team to make the playoff at plus odds despite that committee risk, that's the number worth betting.

Here's the full field, the case for each team, and where the betting value actually lives.

(Odds to make CFP - Subject to Change)

Tier 1: The Favorites

These eight teams are all short prices to make the field, and in most cases the smarter play isn't the CFP number itself, it's the win total. Several of these teams are already being projected to blow past their over in my own previews.

+550

The Play

Over 10.5 Wins (-270)

CJ Carr takes over as a full-time starter behind one of the deepest rosters in the country, and I have the Irish finishing 11-1. That number lines up perfectly with the Over 10.5 regular season wins at -270, the safer and more logical way to back Notre Dame here rather than paying -800 just to see them make the field.

Ohio State Buckeyes crest

Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes

Columbus · Ohio Stadium

Make CFP

-380

+280

The Play

Over 10.5 Wins (+160)

Julian Sayin owns the lowest turnover-worthy play rate in the country among high-volume passers, and I have the Buckeyes finishing the regular season 11-1 before a Big Ten title game rematch with Oregon. Over 10.5 wins at +160 is the play, since it hits exactly on my predicted record and pays a lot better than laying -360 on the CFP number.

The Play

Over 10.5 Wins (+105)

Curt Cignetti's group avoids Oregon and only has to deal with three marquee tests all year. I have Indiana at 11-1, which clears Over 10.5 wins at +105, a much cleaner way to attack this roster than the short CFP price.

Oregon Ducks crest

The Ducks

-320

+250

The Play

Over 11.5 Wins (+500)

This is the sneaky best value bet in the entire piece. Dan Lanning's team avoids Indiana, gets Ohio State at home, and I project the Ducks to run the table at 12-0. That's Over 11.5 wins at +500, a massive number for a team I already have penciled into the playoff field.

Miami Hurricanes crest

Miami Gardens · Hard Rock Stadium

The Play

Over 10.5 Wins (-110)

Darian Mensah steps in after a huge season at Duke, and Miami's ceiling is tied directly to Week 10 at Notre Dame. Win that one and an undefeated season is well within reach. With that much unresolved variance, Over 10.5 wins at -110 is the more comfortable number to attack than the outright CFP price.

The Play

Over 10.5 Wins (+160)

Gunner Stockton and one of the best backfields in the country lead a Georgia team I have finishing undefeated. Over 10.5 wins at +160 is the number to target given that projection, well ahead of laying -260 just for a playoff berth.

Texas Longhorns crest

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns

Austin · Darrell K Royal Stadium

Make CFP

-200

Miss CFP

+165

The Play

Over 9.5 Wins (+120)

Texas carries the most two-loss risk of any team in this tier. If the offensive line and pass rush don't improve, I have the Longhorns finishing 10-2 with losses to LSU and Ohio State. That's still Over 9.5 wins at +120, a fair number given how real the downside case is here.

Texas Tech Red Raiders crest

Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Red Raiders

Lubbock · Jones AT&T Stadium

Make CFP

-200

Miss CFP

+165

The Play

Over 11.5 Wins (+184)

The Red Raiders avoid Utah, BYU, Iowa State, and Kansas State entirely in Big 12 play, and I believe Joey McGuire's group can run the table even with a first-time starter at quarterback. Over 11.5 wins at +184 is the number that matches that projection, and it's the headline best bet in this tier.

Tier 2: The Value Plays

This is where the real betting upside in this exercise lives. All three of these teams are plus money to make the field, yet I have them penciled in as locks. That gap between my projection and the market's price is the story.

Texas A&M Aggies crest

Texas A&M Aggies

The Aggies

College Station · Kyle Field

-200

The Play

+154

Mike Elko returns 14 starters and a full offensive skill group behind Marcel Reed, and I have the Aggies finishing 9-3 with a manageable back half of the schedule. The offensive line is the one real question mark, but the roster is talented enough that this price on the Aggies to make the field looks like the best number in the piece.

LSU Tigers crest

Baton Rouge · Tiger Stadium

The Play

+160

Lane Kiffin's roster overhaul through the portal gives LSU as much talent as anyone in this field, and I project a 10-2 finish and a CFP bid. Sam Leavitt's accuracy under pressure is the swing factor, but at +160 to make the field, the payout more than compensates for that risk.

Penn State Nittany Lions crest

Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions

University Park · Beaver Stadium

+340

-500

The Play

+340

The appeal here is entirely about the schedule. Matt Campbell's Nittany Lions avoid Ohio State, Indiana, and Oregon in Big Ten play, and I have them clearing their win total even in a down scenario. At +340 to make the field, Penn State is the longest price of the three value plays and arguably the most schedule-driven pick in the entire exercise.

The Darkhorse

One team in this field carries odds long enough to make you think twice, and it is the Group of Six representative I have crashing the bracket.

East Carolina Pirates crest

East Carolina Pirates

The Play

+2000

No team in this field carries longer odds than East Carolina to make the playoff as the Group of Six representative. Blake Harrell's Pirates return a loaded receiver room, a defensive line that should hold up, and the 99th-hardest schedule in the country. I have ECU finishing 11-1 and beating out both Boise State and UTSA for the spot. It's a true longshot, but with a committee deciding the last spot in the field, it's the one team on this list with genuine lottery-ticket value attached to it.

Best Bets

Across this field, the smartest money isn't always on the CFP number itself. For the short favorites, the better play is often the win total, since I already have several of these teams running the table or blowing past their over in my own previews. The real edge shows up with the plus-money teams: three squads I have penciled in as playoff locks are still sitting at value prices the market hasn't caught up to. And then there's the true longshot, a Group of Six team with real lottery-ticket appeal if its two-deep holds up.
